Chichen Itza Entrance Fee 2026: Official INAH + CULTUR Price
Current official Chichen Itza entrance fee in pesos and USD, including the INAH admission charge, Yucatan state cultural fee, and what admission includes.
Chichen Itza Entrance Fee 2026 at a Glance
The official Chichen Itza entrance fee for foreign adults in 2026 is 697 MXN (about $35 to $40 USD per person). That total is made up of the federal INAH fee of about 105 MXN and the Yucatan state CULTUR fee of about 592 MXN, but since 2026 both portions are sold as one single ticket at the entrance, so you pay once instead of queueing twice. Foreign children ages 3 to 12 pay about 105 MXN, children under 3 are free, Mexican citizens pay about 310 MXN with INE, and Yucatan residents pay about 105 MXN with valid local ID.
Travelers searching for the "Cancun ruins" admission cost often mean Chichen Itza. The archaeological site is in Yucatan state, about 197 km inland from the Cancun Hotel Zone, and admission is paid at the site entrance.
This guide is prepared by Maya Explorer Tours, a local travel team helping visitors plan Chichen Itza tickets and entrance fees around hotel pickup times, route timing, and travel style.
Chichen Itza Ticket Price: INAH + CULTUR Breakdown
The Chichen Itza admission cost is made up of two separate government fees because the site is co-managed by federal INAH and the Yucatan state agency CULTUR. Since 2026 they are collected together as a single ticket at the entrance rather than at two separate windows, so you make one payment and receive one ticket — keep it for re-entry or if staff need to check your admission on site.

* MXN amounts are the controlling prices on this page. USD equivalents are approximate and use an exchange rate of about 17 to 18 MXN per USD. Fees and exchange rates may change. Avoid resellers who describe the total as one vague "service charge" without showing the INAH and CULTUR split.
What Your Chichen Itza Entrance Ticket Includes
The 697 MXN entrance fee grants full access to the Chichen Itza archaeological zone, one of the most important Maya cities ever built. The site covers roughly 4 square kilometers and includes dozens of restored structures spanning over 1,000 years of history.
Note: the Kukulcán night light-and-sound show requires a separate ticket and is not included in the standard daytime entrance fee.
How and Where to Pay at the Gate
Standalone tickets are sold at the on-site taquilla when you arrive. Cash pesos are always accepted and are usually the fastest option. Card readers are sometimes available but they go offline, so carry enough pesos for admission and parking. ATMs are available in nearby Piste if you need to top up on the way.
There is no official online ticket system for individual visitors. If you want step-by-step guidance on gate purchase, third-party listings, and what to avoid, use our Chichen Itza tickets online guide. This page stays focused on the official fee breakdown, what it includes, and the extra visitor costs to budget for.
Discounts, Free Entry, and the Sunday Rule
Reduced admission is available for residents and children who can show valid ID at the gate:
- Mexican citizens — about 310 MXN with a valid INE.
- Yucatan residents — about 105 MXN with proof of local residency.
- Foreign children ages 3 to 12 — pay the state portion only, about 105 MXN.
- Children under 3 — free.
Sunday free entry applies only to Mexican citizens and permanent residents with valid ID. Foreign visitors are not eligible for Sunday free entry and pay the full 697 MXN every day, including Sundays. Sundays are also the most crowded day of the week, so plan for longer queues if you visit then.
Extra Costs to Budget: Parking, Camera, Guide, Night Show
Beyond the entrance fee, there are a few additional costs to plan for when visiting Chichen Itza independently.
Parking fees
Visitors arriving by car pay a separate parking fee of about 80 MXN (around $5 USD). The main parking lot is within walking distance of the entrance; on busy days, overflow parking may be further away. If you arrive with a guided tour, parking and drop-off are handled for you. For self-drive and public transport options, see how to get to Chichen Itza.
Camera and equipment fees
Standard personal photography with smartphones and consumer still cameras is generally treated separately from video or professional equipment. A video equipment permit is listed at about 63 MXN (approximately $4 USD), while tripods, professional lighting and other professional equipment may require advance INAH authorization. Drones are strictly prohibited within the archaeological zone. For detailed equipment guidance, see our photography tips guide.
On-site tour guide fees
Local guides available at the entrance typically charge about 800 to 2,000 MXN (approximately $45 to $120 USD) per group for a 1.5 to 2 hour tour in English or Spanish. A knowledgeable guide transforms your understanding of El Castillo, the Ball Court, and the astronomical alignments. If you book a private Chichen Itza tour, a certified bilingual guide is already included.
Night show tickets
The Kukulcán night light-and-sound show is a separate ticket from daytime admission. Do not assume the 697 MXN daytime entrance fee includes the night show.

Tips to Avoid Long Ticket Lines
The ticket queue is one of the biggest frustrations for visitors, especially during high season. Here is how to minimize your wait and maximize your time inside the archaeological zone.
Check current opening and entry times
Confirm current opening and last-entry times before visiting. Earlier arrival can reduce ticket-window congestion on busy days.
Avoid peak arrival periods
Large group arrivals can increase ticket-window congestion during busy periods.
Book a guided tour
Many guided tours include or arrange the entrance fee as part of the booking. This can simplify ticket handling, although entry procedures and wait times still depend on the selected tour and conditions at the site.
Check seasonal crowd conditions
Seasonal crowd and weather conditions vary. Use the best-time guide for month-by-month planning.
For a Chichen Itza only day with an early start to reach the site sooner, consider an express private tour. If you want to weigh group, private and luxury formats first, compare Chichen Itza tour options side by side.
Ticket lines are shortest near opening, so check the Chichen Itza opening hours guide for gate and last-entry times, and the best time to visit Chichen Itza for quieter seasons and days.
